Is a surname change required of the woman on getting married

Is it necessary for a woman to change her surname to that of her husbands on getting married.

If she keeps her maiden name can she refer to herself as Miss (maiden name)whilst she is married?

Short answers: No. Yes.

In my state, you can use any name as long as you are not trying to defraud creditors or someone else. Many women now keep their own names when they marry. Some couples hyphenate their names and both use the hyphenated name.
