Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Trinidad and Tobago

I am living with in my fathers house for 34 years ,my mom left him for 15 years and went abroad to live. He passed away 3 years ago and left my brother and me here but my mom never came home in that 15 years...I build a room and did renovations around the house and now they are telling me I have no rights here and that I have to move out...What actions can I take???

Before your question can be answered, more information is needed. Was your father the sole owner of the house? At the time of your father's death, did he leave a will? If so, who were the beneficiaries? If he did not leave a will, then an application for letters of administration would have to be made as your father would have died intestate. The law as regards to intestacy specifies the manner in which the estate is to be divided; that is 1/2 for the spouse, remainder to be equally divided amongst the children.

Further, with respect to the renovations, you may have acquired an equitable interest in the property, but this would depend on the particular facts of your case.
