Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in India

I was staying in a rented flat for 18 months and left on 25th Oct. I cleared dues to owner by paying cash Rs2500 and the owner returned deposit cheque of full amount. I handed him the keys of the flat on same day in the afternoon and left. I went to the bank in the afternoon around 4pm and deposited deposit cheque. Later in the evening around 9 pm, I receive call from police station that the same owner has filed complaint against me stating that I have damaged his house, blown tube lights, window panes etc. Police office asked me to come immediately to police station, however I did not go there.

Now, I find that deposit cheque is not cleared in my account and mentions "stop payment by holder".

What should I do now to retrieve deposit amount?

Dear Sir / Madam,

You should file a case of "cheque bouncing" under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act against the house Owner to recover your deposit from him.
