Re: personal information

The original creditor can be liable under Alabama state law (invasion of privacy) for doing this type of activities. It depends on the amount of contact and what was said.

This blog posts deals with debt collectors but it maybe will provide you with some background information on why people contact others about your debts.

Re: personal information

If this call was from a collection agency the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act would prevent the debt collector from disclosing your debt or implying you owe a debt to family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. In fact, collectors are only allowed to contact your references to obtain location information about you. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act does not apply to the actual creditor holding the loan.
