Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

My husband got a voice mail yesterday afternoon. The man we are guessing some sort of debt collector.He left on the voice mail that he will send his investigating team and the cops and come to our house and he will make sure that our kids and I never seem my husband again.We are not sure the name of the company.When my husband called they refused to tell him the name of the company.He still has the voice mail on his cell phone.We have never been through this and we are not sure if we should leave it alone or if we should take legal action.Please help me to understand this.

They have violated the Fair Debt collection Practices Act. I would not erase the recording. You should call and tell them you are interested in what they are claiming is due and try to get information from them. If you can find out who left the message, you have a claim against them for a minimum of $1,000 (maybe more). You need to be nice about it on the phone (You catch more flies with honey than vinegar). Once you find out who it is, an attorney can write a letter to them filing a claim.

I would recommend you take the telephone with the recording and go to your local police and file a harassment police report and let them investigate the case. It is unlawful to make a threat of violence.
