If a spouse dies and has credit card debt in there name only is the surviving spouse liable for that debt in the state of alabama

No, as long as the spouse did not sign the original agreement and did not use the card for the their benefit. The only way the credit card company can collect is to file a claim in Probate Court against the estate. This is assuming the decedent had a will or assets which had to be probated.
