Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

statue of limitations

I received a letter stating that I owed a past due bill. After calling the 800 number, they told me it was a bill from July 1991. They told me that to avoid any court or legal cost that I had to pay the bill in full today. Is this true?

Re: statue of limitations

I need some more information. Did the debt ever show up on your credit report? Collections and charge-offs must be taken off after 7 years paid off or not. If there was a judgment entered in a court, the creditor may renew the judgment after 10 years if he chooses, otherwise it must come off your credit.
