Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

If you purchased items with a check and not knowingly the bank closed the account automatically due to negative balance of $3.00. I was to get direct deposit which never went through due to the account not existing anymore. The store ask if i could return the merchandise which i did and they would disregard it but later I was charged for it as theft of property 1st after i returned the items. Is that possible for the store to charge me and have me pay them restitution and the court fees if they made the agreement for me to return the items. Please help me my career is in jeopardy!!!!!

Based on the situation you describe, you may have a strong defense to the felony charge against you. There are more details which I need to know, which are not included in your post, and you should not post too many details in a public forum like this site. If you have been charged with theft in the first degree, you face much more serious problems than restitution and court fees. You are facing a sentencing range of 2 to 20 years in prison, and perhaps more if you have prior felony convictions. You need to retain the services of an experienced criminal defense lawyer immediately.
