Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

I was raised by the State and made some bad choices when I was young. I now hold a job in the professional environment and hold several certifications and a Bachelor's degree. But, every once in a while, a couple of minor conviction from 20 years ago plague me. I would like to get an order of expungement to remove these from my record. How do I do this?

Well, the best bet would be to apply for a pardon. Unfortunately, Alabama does not have an expungement law (there was one before the state legislature last year-not sure what happened with it. But it would only allow expungement of misdemeanor convictions, not felonies).

How old were you when you were convicted? Might want to request a copy of what is being found in these background checks or whatever is bringing them up and verify that the information is actually correct.

Regardless, sounds like you would be a good candidate for a pardon. They are rare but it's certainly possible to get one. You can apply with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole or by consulting with an attorney in your area.

Good luck!
