Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

commonlaw wife took son to another state by deception

My son and his commonlaw wife (4yrs) agreed that they wanted to move to South Carolina, near us. She said that she was taking the baby to visit her parents in Washington State, while my son got a job in Sc and a place to live. After 4 weeks of being up there, she says that she is not coming home. My son cannot afford the expense of flying there to see his son. What rights does he have? Does she have a right to just snatch his son away from him like that? My son is the father and is listed as such on the birth certificate. Please help!
