It is an agreement drawn up between parties who are not ready for a divorce yet. It is filed with the court just as a divorce would be. With a legal separation, you no longer live together; however, you are still married. Usually, if a divorce follows, the judge will usually have the divorce follow along the same lines as what was agreed to in the legal separation documents. Hope this helps you!
