Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Divorce Papers

My husband has been divorced from his ex-wife for 8 years. In the divorce papers he agree to maintain a life insurance policy on himself for his son. My question is ''How long does he have to keep this up, and can he add another name to the policy?'' Also my husband is very sick and is terminal, he is physically and mentally unable to care for his son at times. However if we refuse to pick up the son on weekends, the ex-wife threatens to take him back to court. Is something we can do?

Re: Divorce Papers

as far as the life insurance policy is concerned you need to comply with the terms of the decree exactly. unless the decree allows for additional names - none should be added. the decree probably states that the insurance should be in force until the child reaches majority or a specific age such as 19. i doubt that the x wife could do anything if visitation was missed now and then, especially if for good reason. a diary would be helpful in this respect. 205-879-9595
