There are a lot of potential issues to deal with in that situation. The main ones involve whether the biological father of the child is in the picture, and what role - if any - he is going to play. I would suggest that you go see a lawyer who is knowledgeable in family law right away, so that you can take steps to plan how to protect your family and your baby. As I'm sure you realize, Alabama is not a very progressive state and the system does not have a history of showing much acceptance or understanding towards nontraditional family arrangements. Go discuss your situation in private with a lawyer who will act on your behalf to protect your interests.
