Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Social Security being garnished for child support. How do I stop it?

I live in GA and have a child in AL who is now 18 yrs old. For some reason, I have a child support case for both states. GA says I am paid in full and owe nothing but, AL says I am in arrears of over $7000.00. I do not owe this and have tried to straighten this out in AL, but to no avail. I was getting SS and SSI but, they took half of that check as payment to this child for over 10 years. He was also drawing benefits off of me because I was disabled. I have another child who also received benefits from me and when this child turn 18, his share went to his younger brother. I receive less than 500.00 a month and I can't live off that. How can I get SS to stop taking money from my benefits for something that should've been resolved years ago. They say they have a court order and they have to do this, but that was years ago and this keeps coming back over and over again. What can I do?

You are more likely than no going to have to get a lawyer and file on the case in Alabama to get an accounting out of DHR here and in Georgia so that it can be reconciled. If I can help, please contact me through my telephone number on my web site.
