Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

In the state of Alabama can a father sever his parental rights if both the mother and father are in agreement? One law firm let me know that even though both parents were in agreement that it would be up to a judge to decide if that was ok.

That one law firm was correct. Parents can't agree that dad gets to terminate his parental rights and not have to support his child anymore. If the child is not being adopted by some other person (who will support the child) the court is not likely to let dad off the hook and make the state potentially responsible for taking care of the child. You got good advice. Listen to it.
