Not under the FMLA. The Family and Medical Leave Act guarantees that if you have to take a leave due to pregnancy, to care for a sick family member, or your own illness, or to care for an injured servicemember, or a number of related situations, then you may have up to 12 weeks off of unpaid leave while not jeopardizing your job. If you exceed the 12 weeks, some companies will offer to reinstate you if the job is still available. Ask your human resource office for a fact sheet setting out the company's policy on the FMLA and extended leave.
