Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

I loaned a friend some money and they are default in paying me back and have not contacted me. I have our agreement in writing. The amount is greater than what I can recover in small claims court - so what's next? Can I request that their check be garnished to pay back the loan?

Before garnishment you would have to file for a judgment in District Court for the amount owed and get a judgment. The process is the same but allows for more money to be collected. Once you get a judgment, you would then file for garnishment.
