Legal Question in Immigration Law in Alabama

permanent residence

I have been a student in the United States for 7 years, and will start working on a PhD this fall. I am Bulgarian, but would like to live in the US after finishing school (I am not crazy about being bombed by NATO; just kidding, the reasons are much more complicated.). What, if anything, can I do about this now?

Re: permanent residence

Individuals with advanced degrees may qualify under several immigrant categories, including "alien of extraordinary ability," "outstanding professor or researcher" and may qualify for a waiver of the lengthy and difficult labor certification process if they are doing work in the national interest. You may want to consult with an immigration attorney who can guide you in the best approach for you your individual circumstances.

Re: permanent residence

See an immigration lawyer for specifics.

I suggest that you start making friends with potential employers who need your skills - they can sponsor you for a temporary work visa that could eventually lead to a permanent immigrant visa.

Or fall in love with a US citizen.
