Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama

Fired

I recently moved to AL. after working in an police department in FL for 4 years. After starting here,a month ago, the only thing I did ''wrong'' was misunderstand the ''Sgt.'' about my day off of work. Now, this is the ''straw that broke the camals back'', I responded to a call to locate a stolen vehicle, when I located the vehicle and the suspect, who, might I add, stole the SAME vehicle the night before and already had an active warrant for another charge. As I tried to handcuff him, he pulled away, at the same time I tried to take him down to the ground. I went down and he slipped out of my hand. As I was getting up, I threw my flashlight at his legs to try an trip him. I have used and seen this tactic used at the agency I worked at, but after being here a month, AND after asking for a copy, no one had given me a policies and procedures manual, standard operating guidelines or nothing. So, I used the tactic that I had used before. The next day they fired me for ''excessive force.'' Do I have a case?

Re: Fired

It depends on which Police Dept. you were working for. There are different rules depending on the type of Dept.
