Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama

I quit my last job at a bank to take a position with the state, my employment with the bank ended on March 15. I recently found out on May 28, that my old supervisor never submitted my termination papers to payroll which resulted in overpayments. She called me and told me that I now owe the bank over $3,000 because she just submitted my paperwork to payroll. She informed me that I have 10 days to pay them that total or it will be sent to collections. I asked if I would receive a letter notifying me, but she said "No, her phone call telling me was sufficient notification." I feel as though I should not have to pay anything since I submitted my two-week notice in a timely manner as well as participated in an exit review with HR. Do I have any legal grounds to protest this since her negligence directly resulted in this overpayment?

The real question is, did you get money after the two week notice. If so, then you obviously knew this money was not due you and yes you owe it back.
