Legal Question in Military Law in Alabama

Can I still work for the government?

hello,

I was just wondering if I can become a police officer if I have been honorably discharged from the u.s. Army? The discharge was honorable. The reason was, failure to adapt to military lifestyle. Any help you could offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

There really is no hard and fast answer. It will greatly depend upon the police department you will apply to. From what I've heard from those attempting to obtain law enforcement jobs, so long as there is no conviction, nor a discharge for drugs and the discharge is characterized as at least general (under honorable conditions), you should be in decent standing to be considered.

Of course, all else being equal, if someone is applying, who also has military experience and was discharged honorably due to the expiration of his term of service, he'll most likely have the upper hand. But I most certainly believe you should submit the application. Good Luck!

It depends on the LE Agency.

You will have to do well on the Law Enforcement Assessment and Development Report (LEADR). This is a psychological profile.

I have several clients, a number of them with Other Than Honorable Discharges who have successfully transitioned into police work once they "matured."
