Legal Question in Personal Injury in Alabama

Statute of Limitation on Childhood Rape and Sexual Abuse

In 1958 my sister and I were placed with a family which legally adopted us. We we 2 and 4 and the time. The new family had 3 older boys. My sister and I were raped and sexually abused by the 2 younger brothers shortly after our arrival and the abuse continued until we reached adulthood and moved away from them. Intially, the family lived in Indiana (place of adoption) this is where the abuse began. We moved to Alabama in the early 1960's the abuse continued there until I fled in 1970 and my sister in 1972. We both have are emotionally and psychologically disabled as a result of this abuse. Because of the shame we have never discussed this with anyone other than our doctors and therapists. Is there any way I can pursue a civil or criminal complaint after so many years has elapsed?

Re: Statute of Limitation on Childhood Rape and Sexual Abuse

Indiana will permit fairly lenghty extensions of the usual statute of limitations where it can be shown that the victim acted promptly to bring her claim after she recovered from any medical disability. See the information on this link for more details. http://www.courts.state.in.us/judicial/Caseclips/CLIP3599.html

I hope you and your sister both achieve a satisfying resolution. Good luck.
