Legal Question in Social Security Law in Alabama

eviction against ssi recipient

My mother, who is 83, cosigned nearly 2 years ago for her granddaughter to rent an apartment. Now the granddaughter has moved out of state and left my mother to face the eviction process. They do not live together. My mother lives on $604/month social security and ssi. The GD also gets ssi (approximately $750/month). My mother can't possibly pay nearly $2400! What can she do?

I suggest you call Legal Services of Birmingham to set up an appointment. They provide free legal assistance for people just like your mother. This site will not let me post a phone number but you can find them in the phone book or I will try this: three-two-one-eight- zero-zero-one. They should help you with this.

Best of luck!
