Legal Question in Traffic Law in Alabama

Traffic Citation for crossing median on highway

I was travelling home to SC, after doing business in Albama.

I was traveling on an interstate, when I heard a troubling noise comming from the rear of my vechile. I put my emergency lights on and pulled over on the median to inspect my car. It was at this point that a police officer stopped and informed me that I had volated the law by crossing the median. I tried to explain about my car problems and had no interest in crossing over anything, he had no interest in my reasons for being there. This occured on May 26, the Memorial weekend. The manner in which I was treated ,due in no small part to my ethnic origin, added to rude manner in which he treated me. After the ticket was issued, the officer allowed me to cross over the median to go in the direction I had intended to go legally, before he pulled up along side me. When I called the court to ascertain the amount of the fine, I was told it would be at least $275. I wish to fight this ticket. My court date is in July. Please help me with some pertinent advice I can use to incorportate in my responce to the court.

Also must I pay court costs if I do not win ?

Thank-you for your time.

Re: Traffic Citation for crossing median on highway

I'm confused. You first said that you "pulled over on the median." Then you later say, "After the ticket was issued, the officer allowed me to cross over the median to go in the direction I had intended to go legally..." Therefore, I don't understand whether you crossed the median or you didn't. Your first sentence says you pulled over, but your second sentence says you were allowed to cross the median to go in the direction you were headed. So help me, did you cross the median or did you just pull over on it? It would seem to me that if you crossed it, then the ticket you received was valid. However, if you simply pulled over, then if would seem that the ticket was not valid.
