In the state of Alabama once someone passes away does the will have to be read? If so, in what time frame and who should be present?

If you mean like in the movies where everyone gathers around the lawyer's table, then no. That is strictly for show. Normally the executor has an attorney open a probate case and all next of kin are notified of the proceeding and are sometimes given photocopies of the will. The time table is wide open. As long as the will is filed for probate within five years of death, it is fine. Most are filed much sooner than that, and if you wanted to, as a beneficiary you can compel the production of the will.
