Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alaska

I live in Anchorage Alaska and I had towed my dads vehicle to the auto hobby shop on fort richardson (JBER). after repairing the truck i was driving it back to the storage lot located about 4 blocks away. I was pulled over and ticketed for failing to register the vehicle, which I had explained wasnt mine and had been in storage for several months. after going to court and pleading not guilty, the JAG officer has ammended the charge to simply driving without registration... does this sound stupid to anyone else? guilty of not registering someone elses vehicle?

Not at all. If you drive a vehicle on the public street (or, evidently, on a street in Ft. Richardson), I believe you are obligated to first verify that the vehicle is registered. That's what you failed to do.

No. You are not obligated to register someone else's vehicle. But you may not drive a vehicle, anyone's vehicle, that is not registered. See the distinction?
