Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alaska

hi... thanks for reading this...

yesterday my mom went to grocery store and buy stuff from there...but she didn't use a cart so when her hands were full she put one of her item in front of her bag so she can show or remember that she put one of them in her bag.(it was $9.50)

bad thing is she forgot about that and security caught her on site and called police.

she explain to the guy that she is not thief and just forgot about that and willing to go back and pay for it. but they didn't believe her.

security took her phone to power off (because she couldn't speak english good enougt she couldn't ask for any help from family for explain) and counting her money.

she had over $400 dollars in her purse and if she really tried to steal something she wouldn't have money for it. story goes on police came and gave her court ticket

what she can do? it never happened before so she really worry about being record.

please help me

The fact that she had plenty of money with which to pay for the item doesn't really prove anything. Wealthy people still steal things. Our president and his wife are a prime example. They make plenty of money, and yet they are somehow compelled to steal millions from the citizens every day to spend on non-stop partying and vacationing.

Your mother needs to get an attorney immediately. The attorney may be able to make a plea bargain which may keep her out of jail.
