Legal Question in Family Law in Alaska

I live in Alaska. Married 11 years. Getting divorced. He makes 5 times amount of income than me.

What are the chances of getting alimony? No children together. He is also cashing in our IRA, what is the best thing for me to do with the money? HE doesn't want to involve attorneys, wants to do a dissolution and divide everything. He also has a pension, just started about 6 months ago, what are my rights to 1/2 of that???

Can you show that, for example, you supported him while he went to college and thus significantly improved his earning potential? You would need to show something like that in order to get alimony.

There are significant penalties for cashing in an IRA. I suggest you talk to a financial planner before you take that step.

Your rights to the pension would normally be in proportion to how long he was at the job earning that pension. For example, if he worked 22 years at the job and you were married for half that time, you might be entitled to 50%. There are experts who do those calculations, but unfortunately I can't point you to such an expert at the present time, because I don't know of one at the moment.
