Re: Small Claims Court

This really isn't an "administrative law" question, but here are your answers:

The claims limit in Small Claims court in Maricopa County is $2,500 or under.

The claims limit in Justice Court in Maricopa County is under $10,000.

Anything $10,000 or over goes to Superior Court.

In small claims or justice court, filing by yourself is easy. Just walk in to the court nearest where the problem occurred, ask for the form (it's one page) and write down what happened to you and what you want. It costs a little to file it, but if you win, you can often get the filing fees back. You will also need to have the claim "served" on the other person. That costs a few dollars too.

The Maricopa County Court system has a self-help center downtown in the superior court building, and also a web site on line. If you need more do-it-yourself assistance, they have everything you need and someone to answer your questions.

FYI, an administrative law claim is a claim against a government agency, and those are usually filed with the agency itself.
