Are there any lawyers out there that will listen to my case without charging me $100 just to talk?

Depends on the type of case that you have. Many attorneys who handle cases in bankruptcy or personal injury listen to the facts of the case at no charge and handle the case on a contingency basis. Attorneys who bill for their time on an hourly basis are less likely to spend much time listening to potential clients. Lawyers charge for their time just like doctors do. No one would consider calling a doctor and discussing his or her health condition without expecting to pay for the time. Lawyers, like doctors open themselves up to potential lawsuits from clients the moment that they interface with the client or patient and offer a legal opinion. If you do not expect your doctor, dentist, tax preparer, mechanic or chiropractor to examine the health, your teeth, your tax liability, that odd noise in your engine or that ache in your back at no charge, you should not expect every lawyer to listen to your legal issues and provide you with opinions at no charge.
