Legal Question in Business Law in Arizona

What are the laws regarding slander? My business partner has emailed untrue statements about myself and our other partner to all of our business reps, family and friends.

Thank you.

Defamation is illegal, and depending upon the false statements made, they may constitute defamation "per se," or prima facie defamation. Statements that damage you in your trade or business may constitute defamation per se. You have to be able to prove your damages which directly result therefrom.

You should take immediate action to hire a lawyer and make the necessary demands to stop further publication of the false statements and to issue a retraction.

The other attorney is right on point here. Just to add a little, slander is spoken. Here there's an email (writing) that's been published to third parties. So it's libel. These kinds of cases are highly fact dependent and you should consult an attorney in your area for specifics and to take action asap.
