sued for my exhusband collecting unemployment insurance

Hi I would like to know if the Dept.Of Economic Security unemployment office have the right to include me in an suit againist my ex husband that I had no part or knoweledge of the alledged overpayment? My ex husband collected unemployment benefits illeagaly. He was given many opportunities to repay the money but,he did not. The only time I became aware of this matter is when I received a summons indicating me as a party to the suit. I was married to him, but lived at a different address. My divore decree stated we are both responsible for each of our own debt from the year of 1996. His fraudlent act took place in 97-98. Thank You

Re: sued for my exhusband collecting unemployment insurance

They have sued you on the theory that the money owed them is a community debt. You need legal representation to prove that it is not, that you did not participate, and that all obligations after 1996 are his. That should get you out.
