Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

My daughter has been adopted since she has been 10 years of age then got kick out of her home at 16 years of age. Now she is married with children at the age 21. My question is why am I still paying child support to the mother.

In order to adopt the daughter, someone would have had to terminate your rights as a father... if there was a child support order... most likely you would have had to file a petition to terminate the child support when you daughter either became emancipated as a minor... or alternatively turned 18... those things probably did not happen... There is also a possibility that you are paying child support arrears... Without looking at the court records in your case, an answer is just a guess. If you would like to find out why... and how to stop the child support, I suggest that you call us at 602 462 1004 and ask Stephanie Coulter of this office to make arrangements for you to speak to one of our attorneys.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE PAYING. Please call and see us soon. We first need to see if you perhaps are paying "arrears". IF NOT, then your child support obligation ended when your daughter was adopted.

We can certainly help you consider and then pursue your options for pursuing any overpayments. This is obviously a very important matter, and you should not go in alone.

One of our attorneys can explain the issues and procedures better in person. As you can imagine, there is too much to cover via email. We offer free 1/2 hour consultations, in which we can discuss your matter in detail.

Please call us directly to discuss the specifics of your matter, or contact my assistant Alicia or my paralegal Jennifer to schedule your free 1/2 hour consultation.
