Own house before marriage.

Can a spouse keep the house if it was bought before the marriage, or is it split as community property?

Re: Own house before marriage.

Typically in this situation, there will be a portion of the equity in the house that is the sole and separate property of the spouse who previosuly owned it, and there will be a portion of the equity in the house which will be divided as community property. The actual amount of each depends upon a variety of factors.
