Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Re pending divorce I did not know I had to respond

My husband served me with Divorce papers on 12 7 07. The papers were written up by his girlfriend. I was so mad I did not look at them. No I realize I should have responded within 20 days. Is there any way I can respond now. 12/29/07? The pappers show no maintenance for me. I have not worked in the 5 years we were married. I do not have a job at the moment, I am looking for one at the moment. I do not know where I will live after the divorce. Can I contest the divoese? Please help me.

Re: Re pending divorce I did not know I had to respond

Yes, you can still respond to the divorce petition and should do so as soon as possible. Although your initial 20 days has passes, you are still entitled to a 10-day "grace period" after he files an application for default. The soonest he could file the application is 20 days after you are served. Rather than waiting to see if he does so, you should file your response ASAP. The court charges a $231 filing fee, and the form is available from the courthouse or website: www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov

You can still respond, and should do so immediately!

We can absolutely help.

I can explain the issues and procedures better by phone or in person. As you can imagine, there is too much to cover via e'mail. We offer free 1/2 hour consultations, in which we can discuss the matter in more detail.

Please call me directly to discuss the specifics of your case, or contact my assistant Alicia or my paralegal Jennifer to schedule a free 1/2 hour consultation.
