Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Arizona

Catholic Rapists

Can you please explain to me how all these priests and bishops in the Catholic Church who have been charged with rape (etc.) can still be out of prison? ''Ordinary'' citizens would be locked up with heavy bonds if they were in the same situation. Thank you for youe time. Regards,--name removed--Bushbaum

Re: Catholic Rapists

Like every other citizen, priests are entitled to bail and are innocent until proven guilty. Just as with any other category of offense in society, there have been false accusations made for the purpose of 'cashing in' on the publicity and getting money.

I assume you would like the presumption of innocence if you were charged with a crime.

If the accused are found guilty, then they should be severely punished for their crimes and breach of trust.

As a follow up, there have been more accusations against protestant ministers than Catholic priests, so anger should be directed towards them as well. The rate of accusation of homosexual assault by priests is about the same as the rate in the general population, about 1.8 percent so we should all keep a proper perspective. Punish the guilty, don't condemn the entire group.
