Legal Question in Immigration Law in Arizona

My friend has been in this country since he was 3 years old. He is 27 and has never been to Mexico. He is sitting in ICE custody and is scared about being deported. He was bullied into asking for a voluntary deportation just to get out of custody. He doesn't know anybody in Mexico and wants to stay in the only country that he knows and loves. He wants to know what he has to do to stay and take care of his kids.

Your friend is in a tough position. The first question for me is what exactly do you mean, "He was bullied into asking for voluntary departure"? Has he signed any documents? Has he been given a date when ICE will take him out of the country?

If voluntary departure is not a certainty, your friend may have a few options. Let's start with a few questions here. (a) You mention that he has children. Were they born in the U.S.? (b) Does he have a spouse or parents, living in the U.S., with legal immigration documents? (c) Does he have any convictions? These are only my first set of questions.

I think you need a more complete consultation. If you want to pursue this discussion further, feel free to fill out my consultation form at www.phoeniximmigrationlaw.com or call my 800 number listed there. I specialize in deportation and removal defense, so I'm willing to assist him if that is what you decide to do.

Another option is that you can email me directly at [email protected].

In any event, I wish you and your friend the best of luck. Whatever you decide, he needs to discuss his case with an immigration attorney. I would not let this carry on too many days since his case could move very quickly.

Sincerely
