The insurance company can conduct a reasonable investigation... and must take prompt steps to pay a legitimate claim. If it fails to do that it is acting in bad faith. As a part of that investigation and not wanting to pay you, the insurance company will attempt to determine whether you are filing a fraudulent insurance claim. They will ask questions to determine whether you broke into your own house or had someone do it so that you could pay your bills. The adjustor will believe that you exaggerated what you lost and force you to find every receipt. They will then discount the things you value because they are used goods.

Yes you are probably offended because you are the victim here. The other side of that is that the insurance company after taking years of high premiums. just wants to make sure that you are the victim and not that you are trying to rip off your insurance company to pay other bills You would think that the insurance company would treat you as well when you have a claim as it does when it wants your premium... but that isnt the case,. It is a sad world we live in. My advice to everyone is that you should chose your insurance company by the manner in which it processes its claims... not just how cheap the premium is. There are some insurance companies I would not do business with them if they dropped the premium to 1.00 because they treat you like crap when you have an insurance claim.
