Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Arizona

Nephew

My brother the father is doing 15yrs in prison, still 8 to go. Mother is really in a bad drug induced situation and has the nephew living at the river with people and the environment not suitable for any child. One of mothers family members relayed to me that child protective services is attempting to remove the boy and make him a ward of the state or adoption. Is there anything that I can do to bring this boy home and provide proper necessities ? Keep in mind that I was convicted of felonies 8 years ago and did 3.5yrs in prison.

Re: Nephew

You can get involved and show that your household is appropriate for a family member. Depends on why you were in prison. If it was the wrong category (i.e. child abuse or molestation), then don't even ask.

If it was relatively minor or non-assaultive and you've have a very successful re-entry, then you can use that to persuade protective services that your home would be better than the streets.

The other thing you can do is work with the foster parent as a concerned family member, in which case, even if you can't have the child in your home, you can maintain a family connection.
