Legal Question in Employment Law in Arizona

I work as an independent contractor under an Independent Contractors Agreement and the agreement ends on July 31, 2010. One of the sections of the agreement says that I can't work for another 'similar' company for 3 years. Since the agreement ends on July 31, 2010 am I still held to that 3 year period?

I understand your question to be whether a contract that expires now can prohibit you from working elsewhere for a period that starts after this contract terminates. The answer is 'Yes, in general. Typically, a non-compete agreement will include a period during which you cannot compete which is after the contract terminates. However, whether this specific contract term is enforceable depends on the contract, state law, etc. You need to have an attorney that handles such matters review the copntract and advise you. The three year term raises issues and there are other things I would look at. Wrongly done the "contract" is worthless on that score.
