need help to get ex-boyfriend to finance or return car

Financed a car for boyfriend but is now ex-boyfriend. I told him when we broke up, which was 6 months ago, that he had until May to get it financed under his name. He refuses to do it. He lives in California and I live in Arizona. I want to know what my options are to get him to finance it or get the car back unharmed?

I have little to suggest for you. You have no written agreement? Is the car titled in your name? If the ex is current on payments, and you have no written collateral security agreement, I do not see how you could force him to give the car to you. If he is late, it goes on your credit.

You got a loan for a man who was not committed enough to you to marry you, so there is no marriage to give the court jurisdiction over property rights and obligations. If you had an oral agreement, you could sue to enforce. But it sounds like you had no agreement for him to pay off the loan, when you split you told him to get a loan, but apparently this was not part of any agreement in advance, it is just you telling him to do something. Now he won't. One thing you have in your favor: if the car is titled in your name you may have leverage to take the car. Your post is unclear as to whether you took out this loan in Arizona or California. And if it's in your name, he can't sell it without forging your signature. See a California attorney.

Good luck,
