What is the "best" way for a married couple to title a new home when both have adult children from previous marriages?

There is no pat answer to your question. A married couple in AZ, which is a community property state, could take title as co-tenants as their separate property, joint tenants with right of survivorship, community property with right of survivorship and as husband and wife. The answer depends upon your goals and what you expect to do with the property and when. Your children from a previous marriage should not be a factor, if you are thinking about estate planning, then that should be done first, and then the question of title may be easily answered.
