Legal Question in Traffic Law in Arizona

traffic law- reckless driving

i was given a reckless dr ticket, but in reality someone else was driving my car- (I was taken in to station after walking by cops arresting my roommate- an acqaintance had just driven my car past the situation- can't identify him, unfortunately) I pled not guilty, and have not gone to trial yet- if I am not believed, and found guilty, will the penalty be worse than if I just plead guilty now? I was given a hand held breathalizer in jail, never read my rights, and released after 1 hr- but the ticket doesn't mention dui, just reckless driving- I'm told its a $400 fine, and several points on my insurance rating. I am innocent, and would hope to be exonerated.

Re: traffic law- reckless driving

Reckless driving is a class 2 misdemeanor and as such the Judge has a fair degree of range in sentencing. Usually, it results in only a fine but in theory can carry up to a 4 month jail sentence. It WILL result in eight points to your license and that will trigger a points suspension if you dont do TSS

If your innocent, then you need to retain counsel and prepare the best defense possible.
