checking account and debt liability

Will my mother be held responsible for my grandmother's debts after my grandmother is deceased because they share a checking account?

The answer to your question will depend in large part on whose money is in the joint checking account. If it is your grandmother's money (with your mother as a "convenience" signer), her assets will be available to pay her debts at the time of her death.

If the funds are your mother's, why is her mother (your grandmother) also on the bank account?
