Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Arizona

Old debts and thieves

My partner owes alot of money on back child support. I am an only grandchild who, when my grandparents pass, will recieve quite a large sum of money, property etc. If he and I were to get married, could ''whomever'' have rights to my inheritance to pay off child support or current support?

Re: Old debts and thieves

As long as you don't put your inheritance into a joint account or a jointly owned asset, you should be safe for two reasons: (1) your inheritance is your separate property, so your partner/spouse has no right to it, and (2) the child support is a separate obligation, so you have no responsibility for it.
