What do you mean by personal property.... if it was purchased during the marriage with joint income, it is probably community property too

If you die without a Will, then state law controls who inherits your estate. Your estate would consist of your share of the community property (both real and personal property) and your separately owned property. There are rules which determine what is separate property and what is community property.

Now, if you die without any issue/children, then your spouse would be your sole heir. If you die with children, then it is divided between your spouse and children. It is best to have a will and then you determine who gets what.
