Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Arizona

Can the heirs of a deceased person redeem the tax lien on a property

Grandpa died in 1994, grandma died in 1997, their only child preceeded them in death in 1978. Was under the belief that there was a family friend that was handling probate and now I have found out that there was a tax lien issued on the property several years ago and a new one issued last month. How can we, the three surviving grandchilren save the house and what is the timeframe that we have to do it in?

Re: Can the heirs of a deceased person redeem the tax lien on a property

Depending upon the market value of the home, less any debt and tax due, probate may or may not be required to transfer ownership of the property to the heirs. If the property is worth less than $50,000, you can file an affidavit with the probate court and the heirs will be in title, and then they can pay off the tax liens and clear title to the property. The grandchildren may not be the only heirs if grandma was survived by a sister or brother.
