child custody

My sister wants to give me legal custody of her 15 year old daughter. What do I need to do legally and how much should it cost?

Re: child custody

First, where is your neice? Is she in Nevada or Arkansas? Under Nevada law, she can give you a six month guardianship by just signing an affidavit with the correct language. You can also do a petition for a permanent guardianship.

The other issue is where is the father? Will he object and why isn't he considered to have custody?

Re: child custody

Thank you for your inquiry.

You would be able to apply for a guardianship within Clark County, Nevada if the child lives here. If so, you would have to properly notify the father of the child about your intentions.

I would want to discuss the matter with you further. My firm's hourly rate is $125.00/hr and we require at least a $1,500.00 retainer for all family law matters.

If you would like to speak to me directly contact my office and we can have a brief phone consultation.

Best Regards,

Jim Herbe
