Legal Question in Family Law in Arkansas

Grounds for restraining order/grandparent visitation

I live in Arkansas and my father in law got severly upset with me over canceling my daughters birthday party. He then proceeded to call me and cuss me out threatening to take my daughter from me because of grandparent rights. Is this grounds for restraining order? Is there such a thing anymore as ''grandparents rights''? He is bi-polar and off his meds as well.

Re: Grounds for restraining order/grandparent visitation

If the father-in-law made threats of physical harm against you, then it may be grounds for a restraining order.

There is such a thing as "grandparents' rights," however, it is often difficult to establish. Grandparents do not have any special rights to grandchildren just because they are related. They can only obtain visitation rights in very specific situations as defined by statute [Ark. Code Ann. 9-13-103].
