Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Arkansas

Probate -Wills-Trusts

My granndfather passed away in 1997 in Rogers, Arkansas. No one notified me and I just found out as Im removed form the rest of the family members. I have gone through a name change, but I do believe I am a named beneficiary, and would like to find out how long the probate period is if there is a time limit to file a claim and how i would be able to contact and resolve this.

Though you live in Washington, you will have to see an Arkansas lawyer.

The time limit is 5 years from the date of death to file a probate, which has obviously passed. However, if you were in fact a named beneficiary, then the case should not have been closed without you being contacted. You can go to the couny courthouse where your grandfather lived (or died) and see what actions have actually taken place in his probate file. There you can find who the executor is (was) and you can then contact them. You probably ought to hire an attorney to walk you through this process.
